Dear Member,

Welcome to International Year of Cooperatives 2025, a year of incredible opportunity to showcase the value and impact of cooperatives and mutuals! I hope you had a relaxing and joyful holiday season, and those of you in Southland, Wellington and Auckland enjoyed the extra break celebrating regional anniversaries.

2025 is a pivotal year. We are updating our core cooperative economy research and sharing stories of the collective impact of co-operatives and mutuals.  This month, we are proud to kick off with a refreshed website and the launch of the NZ Coop Icons campaign. Keep an eye out for our regular features celebrating NZ's cooperative and mutual icons. Meet trailblazers, learn about community initiatives, hear from co-op champions and explore origin stories this IYC2025. Next month we introduce the Mutual Value Measurement Framework© to New Zealand, with a generous offer for CBNZ Full Members from our sister organisation the BCCM.

I look forward to collaborating with you all this year. If I can be of any help, please reach out.

Ngā mihi / In co-operation

2024's winner is Ashleigh Buchanan, Operations Manager People Capabilities at Southern Cross Health Society. We spoke with Ashleigh this month about her perspective on leadership. Listen

The Cooperative Economy Report 2025

We're updating the Cooperative Economy report for 2025. Last released in 2021, this research plays a vital part in understanding the impact co-ops, mutuals and member-owned firms have on our economy and our society. Focusing on the top 30 organisations in the sector, we are undertaking our desk research this month, and will be reaching out to members to validate info soon.

Webinar: Discover the Mutual Value Measurement Framework©

How can co-operatives and mutuals measure what really matters? If you are a cooperative leader or board member, you may have grappled with measurement methodologies designed for corporates, that don't quite hit the mark.

Join us online as we launch the Mutual Value Measurement Framework© into New Zealand.  The first methodology for impact measurement designed with and by co-ops and mutuals, in celebration of IYC 2025, we have partnered with the BCCM to offer the BCCM member discount rate for MVM (licence and accreditation) for CBNZ members.
